BBD Fiber Technologies

About Us

BBD Fiber Technologies LLC produces specialty optical fibers and custom fiber sensor systems. In collaboration with IVG Fiber—an applied fiber-optic research laboratory established in 1997—our foundation is built on decades of experience in fiber sensor design and the development of advanced specialty optical fibers.

Our laboratory is home to some of the most innovative fiber-optic technologies in the industry. With a continually expanding project portfolio, we develop new fibers and sensing techniques each year, enabling us to deliver customized solutions for virtually any industry or application.

Our Innovative Technology

At BBD Fiber Technologies LLC, we are dedicated to advancing fiber-optic innovation. Whether you need a unique sensing solution or high-performance fibers for demanding environments, our team is ready to engineer a solution tailored to your requirements.

Our expertise covers a broad range of applications. We develop high-temperature optical fibers, as well as custom distributed sensors for structural monitoring and downhole sensing. In the field of current and voltage sensing, we offer spun optical fiber, elliptical-core polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber, and custom polarimetric sensors designed to provide precise and reliable results. For optical telecommunications, our technology includes spun optical fiber and gratings, elliptical-core PM fibers, and rare-earth-doped PM fibers—ideal for advanced communication networks and specialized use cases.

Our Fibers

All kinds of specialty fiber, each carefully designed, manufactured and tested

Low-birefringence fibers

Low-birefringence optical fiber (also known as spun fiber) can transmit polarized light over large distances with minimum error. Unlike regular PM fibers it relays both linear and circular polarization and does not require axial alignment of the fiber when splicing or connectorizing. Spun fiber structure is designed to spread non-uniformities in silica along all possible directions, effectively cancelling out total fiber birefringence.

Elliptical-core PM fibers

Our elliptical-core fiber provides high polarization extinction and insensitivity to bending and twisting. Unlike conventional PM fibers, birefringence of the elliptical-core waveguide has low thermal dependence (more than 10 times lower than Panda).

Metallized fibers

We now offer single-mode and multimode mode fibers with high temperature aluminum or copper alloy coatings. Thin layer of metal provides mechanical strength and eliminates outgassing, at the same time increasing temperature range and heat conductivity of the fiber. Surprisingly cost-effective compared to their gold-coated counterparts, the fibers can withstand temperatures up to 600° C or even higher, depending on heating pattern and atmosphere composition.

Tailored Optical Fibers, Small Batches

We offer customized optical fibers with unique cross-sections, dopants, and coatings, accommodating orders as small as 200 meters. Perfect for specialized applications in telecommunications, sensing, and photonics.

Industries We Serve

Our project portfolio is constantly growing and with new fibers and sensing techniques developed each year we can provide customized solution for virtually any industry and application.
